A total of 30 spindle-shaped unguentariums, which were found in situ from different types of tombs during rescue
excavations in the necropolis area of the ancient city of Amisos and outside the necropolis area between 1991 and
2015, constitute the subject of the study. Spindle-shaped unguentarium, also called fusiform in the literature, have
been used to preserve perfumes, creams, oils and various cosmetics. Apart from this use, it is also known that it is
given to the dead as gifts to sacred areas and tombs. The unguentaryums in the inventory of the Samsun Museum have
been associated with the rituals of the dead since they are mostly detected in tombs. Most of these unguentaryums
are dated to a brief period between the late 2nd century BC and the first half of the 1st century BC, with the help of
context finds.
