Özet

The present study was conducted at the hazelnut orchards of the Horticultural Department of Ondokuz Mayis University, Agricultural Faculty in Samsun Province of Turkey, between February 2013 and January 2014. The objective was to determine the propagation performance of Turkish hazelnut cultivars of 'Acı', 'Allahverdi', 'İncekara', 'Kalınkara', 'Okay 28' and 'Sivri' by stooling (mound layering). For this purpose, six-year-old bushes with 5-6 stools (stem) were used as stock plants and 20 stool shoots (current season's shoot) were used per bush. Girdling was used in all cultivars as a standard application that has the highest effect on adventitious root formation. A mixture of soil:peat (2:1) was used as the rooting medium. Significant differences were observed in investigated traits of the cultivars. Rooting ratios of the cultivars varied between 50.01 and 74.33%, the ratio of ready to be planted saplings (with a rooting score of 3, 4 and 5) varied between 27.86 and 38.83%, the number of primary roots varied between 12.84 and 22.08, primary root lengths varied between 15.37 and 20.15 cm, fresh root weights varied between 3.77 and 5.94 g, shoot lengths varied between 93.12 and 137.36 cm, shoot diameters varied between 10.28 and 14.42 mm, the number of nodes shoot-1 varied between 19.40 and 30.68, fresh shoot weights varied between 47.13 and 127.89 g. In this study, a great success has been achieved in stooling of Turkish hazelnut cultivars during 2013-2014 production season.
