Özet

According to the statistics of the World Economic Forum, it is assumed that the amount of plastic 

in the seas and oceans will exceed the number of marine creatures by 2050, while an average of 

eight million tons of plastic will spread into ocean waters each year.The damage caused by plastics 

in terrestrial, atmospheric and aquatic habitats is analyzed and environmental policies are 

prepared at global and local scale to prevent them. The effects of plastics are not limited to the 

visible part. Large plastic particles break down into small pieces and then turn into 

microplastics. Microplastics were found in seven of eight samples taken from the Antarctic Ocean, 

according to a 2018 study by Greenpeace. in this study, the properties, classification, sources, 

transport, and effects on organisms of microplastics in aquatic environments were investigated and 

studies on microplastics in wastewater were examined.
