The Determination on the Elementary School Students’ Awareness Related to the Environment

Özet

It has been aimed with this study that the elementary school students’ awarenessrelated to the environment is determined. The survey model has been used in theresearch, and the sampling consists of 60 students in total that they receive theireducation at the forth grade at a state elementary school on Turkey’s north part.“Elementay School Awareness Scale” which was developed by Yıldız Yılmaz andMentiş Taş (2017) has been used as the data collection tool in the research. The scaleconsists of 35 items and 4 aspects. The data which was obtained in the research wasanalyzed as the percentage (%) and frequency (f). As a result of the research, it canbe said that the elementary school students had the high awareness on theenvironment when it is considered that they had the points in the ElementaryEnvironment Awareness Scale related to the Elementary School Students.Furthermore, the research results reveal that the elementary school students havesome deficient and incorrect knowledge. In the research, it is interesting to note thatthe students state that electricity is an consumable energy source. In addition, it isthought that the reason why students do not decide on membership of civil societyorganizations such as TEMA, which carries out studies related to erosion, forestationand conservation of natural assets, is not aware of these institutions.
