Özet

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate correlation between anxiety and depression scores and clinical parameters in the patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: The study group consisted of 102 women with the diagnosis of knee OA according to American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria. Fiftyone women without joint complaints were considered as the control group. Outcome measures for pain were visual analogue scale (VAS) pain score and Western Ontario McMaster osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) pain score. Disability and stiffness were assessed with WOMAC physical function and stiffness scores. Anxiety and depression were assessed with hospital anxiety and depression (HAD) score. Results: Mean age of patients with knee OA and healthy controls were 53.5±7.6 years and 53.2±5.3 years respectively (p>0.05). There were statistically significant differences between patients and the controls in BMI, anxiety and depression scores. There were statistically significant correlations between WOMAC pain and WOMAC physical function and stiffness scores, and between WOMAC pain and anxiety, depression scores. We found a significant correlation between WOMAC physical function score and anxiety, depression scores and also between WOMAC stiffness score and depression score. Conclusions: We found high levels of anxiety and depression scores correlated with the pain and disability scores.
