The relation between in vitro temperature elevation and bactericidal effect of ceftriaxone

Özet

It has been shown that environmental temperature elevation as an in vitro equivalent of fever, a major symptom in childhood, increases the death of bacteria and decreases minimal inhibitory concentrations of antibiotics. The studies on this topic are not satisfactory and do not include human body temperatures and antibiotic deficient media as controls. In this study bactericidal effects of ceftriaxone on E. coli ATCC 25922 serogroup in temperatures 37 °C, 39 °C and 41 °C has been searched and compared with controls. The antibactericidal effectiveness has been found much more in 41 °C than in 37 °C and 39 °C (P < 0.05). We conclude that bactericidal effects of antibiotics are much more in high temperatures.
