Özet

Macroglossia is a relatively uncommon condition characterised by enlargement of the tongue disproportionate to the rest of the dentoalveolar structures. It may cause significant symptoms in children. Currently wedge resection, side marginal resection, tip amputation, or combinations of the three are used in partial glossectomies for macroglossia. In this paper, we presented a five year old case with a true macroglosssia due to cavernous lymphangioma. We devised the reduction surgery for his difficulty in speech and alimentation. We performed vertical elliptical excision in the front and similar horizontal excision in the back of the tongue. Histopathological examination revealed excessive presence of dilated lymphatics. Our cases speech and eating were improved satisfactory at two months postoperatively.
