Özet

Epidural and spinal anesthesia are well-accepted regional techniques, but they have several disavantages. The combined spinal epidural anaesthesia (CSEA) technique can reduce these disadvantages. This technique is used common for major orthopedic surgery and obstetrics. In this retrospective study the anesthesia records of 261 patients who were applied CSEA between 01.01.1995 and 01.05.2001 at Ondokuz Mayis University Hospital were evaluated. Patient's age, weight, sex and ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) physical status, duration of anesthesia and hemodynamic parameters and complications were recorded and analysed. Systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and heart rate (HR) decreased 15 min after CSEA and remained lower than baseline values 180 minutes after the procedure. Sedative medication was needed for 126 of 261 patients and five patients were given propofol infusion. Additive analgesic was required for 45 of 261 patients. Only six patients experienced nausea and vomiting. It is concluded that CSEA is safe and effective technique that can be used in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery.
